As many people may not know, when we invest in public art, we invest in the economy. For every $1 spent on public art, there is between a $2-$4 return on that initial investment. I have traveled to cities, near and far, and fall in love with the amazing art. Murals sponsored by businesses, actual storm drain projects with impact, trash cans that don't look like garbage, cross walks that are safer for both drivers and pedestrians. But the Arts community and many older Arlingtonians don't want to make these changes all while complaining about art that is happening, and demanding economic development.
How can we create jobs, create art, foster community, place make, all while encouraging this economic investment, especially where seriously lacking in South Arlington?
